September 1, 2009, 703 Olin
Present: Boris Michev, Liz Muller, Kavitha Reddy, Mira Basara, Danielle Mericle

  • Current number of maps in collection is 157
  • Will eventually add about 200 NY topographical maps
  • Plan is to remove dependency on Rick and keep things simple for Luna load to keep future workflow straightforward
  • Will start focusing on project again in late September as Mira is v busy for next 2 weeks

Who's doing what

  • Danielle will send Liz VICOS project details (simple and works well with old and new Luna browser)
  • Liz will also look at Ariel, cross-collection searching, eventual ARTstor migration
  • Rick was going to create handles for every image to link Luna to Voyager. Liz will look at new Luna for permanent URLs
  • In about 3 weeks, Mira will ask Surindher for space on test server so she can experiment. Images in Luna can't be over 200MB or upload will fail (Mira usually tinkers with sizes to make them work). Mira has never loaded jpegs. Uploads for RMC once a month
  • Handling multi-sheet images: Add 3rd column naming each sheet to distinguish images. Mira will investigate multi-sheet feature in new Luna
  • Boris will analyze NY topographical maps which currently have a single BibID. An analysis probably exists already. Maps should be ready for next round
  • Boris will consult Mira/take class on new Luna

August 19, 2009

Present: Boris Michev, Liz Muller, Kavitha Reddy

  • Maps still have to be cleared for copyright. Liz will use the metadata extracted from Voyager to create a table with BibID, title, creator, publisher, and date. Boris will pass this on to a student who will find out which maps are in the public domain and edit the spreadsheet accordingly. Liz will then use the remaining Bib IDs to do an updated extraction from Voyager. Copyright clearance should be completed in about a week - 10 days.
  • Title of collection will be "Images from the Map Collection, Cornell University Library"

August 3, 2009

Boris

  • Earlier problem with filenames has been fixed. Boris is doing a final review before sending to Danielle
  • Will work on collection name, description, and rights for Luna (will look at new Luna version and the 18 collections currently on test server)
  • Will contact Mira about updated rights sheet

Liz

  • Met with LTS and will be going with MARCXML format
  • Will look into displaying call numbers instead of Bib IDs for patrons in Luna
  • Will also look into including a language field for non-English maps, but not a priority
