AguaClara Outreach Team
Motivation and Objectives
The outreach team has three major goals. The first goal is to raise awareness of AguaClara to the general public and to the Cornell Community. The second goal is to begin attempting to raise funds both to build plants in Honduras and for conducting research to improve and design AguaClara plants at Cornell. Finally we need to establish processes, precedents, and standards for future outreach teams.
Awareness
We plan to contact area schools and community groups to arrange presentations and lessons for local students. We will facilitate these presentations but everyone on the team is encouraged to attend. In order to make this efficient we will develop a generic lesson plan that can be used and modified depending on the situation.
We will develop new educational materials for AguaClara. We will design and print two posters. One poster for the mural in Hollister Hall and the other one that can be used as a background for AguaClara presentations. We will also work on developing new brochures and possibly other promotional materials as needed. We may develop some Spanish language educational materials for distribution in Honduras.
Fundraising
We plan to work on fundraising this semester. We will develop contacts with donor organizations and establish a database of potential donors. We will work to fill out grant applications and other fundraising methods as needed throughout the semester.
Precedents
We will work to document our procedures and methods to make outreach easier for future outreach teams.
Other tasks
We will work to recruit other people based on skills needed. Potential examples included an art/graphic design related major to work on promotional materials, someone with educational experience to work on developing a lesson plan and any other skills that may contribute to AguaClara. We will work with the project team leader to bring in appropriate speakers to teach the team about areas related to AguaClara.
General Goals
- Establish processes to facilitate fundraising in the future.
- Establish contacts to help with fundraising.
- Establish a database of potential donors
- Make the AguaClara project known to the Cornell community, and surrounding areas.
- Inform as many people as possible of what AguaClara does.
- Get the Cornell community involved in the project, by teaching them what it is, and how they can help.Create better outreach materials.
Spring 2008 Goals
- Design a new logo
- Create and publish two new posters.
- Develop new outreach material with appropriate communication strategies.
- Establish contacts with schools and community groups, and clubs, to make presentations about AguaClara.
- Develop presentation and educational outlines.
