Demo Plant Process Controller Instructions
These are general instructions for using the process controller in the Agua Clara lab.

  1. Open "Runtimes folder" on desktop
  2. Open "Process Controller" application
  3. On the "configuration" tab, load a method from the folder by clicking on the small picture of a folder on the top left.
  4. From the Agua Clara Network (see directions over other computers if you do not see Agua Clara network)
    • Aguaclara> Agua Clara team folders> demo plant> Process controller> Methods> Base Setup
  5. On the "configuration" tab, click on "edit rules" button in the lower right
  6. Change the Residence Time and plant flow according to specifications of experiment
    • On the "Rules and States" tab, if the states list is blank, reload the base setup method file from step (4).
  7. On "Plant Operation" tab, set state on computer to "Idle" to start mixing. (On computer, in "Plant Operation" tab, will previously be set to "OFF".)
  8. Measure and refill stock solutions if necessary:
    • Clay at 0.5 g/ml
    • Alum at 1 g/ml
  9. Clean out plant from previous experiment
    • Empty Sedimentation Tank with valve
    • Disconnect all tubes
    • Separate Sed Tank and Floc Tank over Sink and rinse out both pieces.
  10. Reassemble plant and reconnect all tubes.
  11. Fill plant with water manually.
  12. On the "Plant Operation" tab, change "mode of operation" to "Automatic operation"
  13. Set "Operator selected state" to "preparation"
  14. Start a data log by clicking the yellow log button and pick a name (ex. "Data log 6-30-08) to save the file under.
    • Save under Demo Plant > Process Controller > Data (or Summer Data > Raw Data Logs)
  15. Insert a text file
    • "Plant Operation" tab, click on yellow square button that says "Text Log" on it
    • Insert text into log file (ex. "Start 100 ml/min Experiment, Run 1). Edit bolded sections appropriately.
  16. Record test parameters, date, and time on table by computer.
