Data Sources

Web service APIs are available for two major data sources, eBird and Avian Knowledge Network (AKN).

eBird

• eBird version 0.9 — SHUT DOWN
• eBird version 1.0 — SHUT DOWN
• eBird version 1.1 — DEPRECATED
• eBird version 2.0 – PRODUCTION

• Terms of Use for all versions of eBird APIs — Simply stated, noncommercial use of these APIs is free and open; commercial use requires a written agreement. See terms of use for complete details.
• eBird crossdomain.xml policy file for Adobe clients

Avian Knowledge Network

• Permanently Deactivated on May 15, 2014
• The Avian Knowledge Network APIs will be shutdown on May 15, 2014, some services will be migrated to eBird during the next 3 months; consult the eBird API documentation for URIs and service specifics.

Neotropical Birds Online

• Neotropical Birds version 1.0 — PRODUCTION
• There are currently no published terms of use for Neotropical Birds APIs.

Versions

Each API is versioned. Each version will have one of the following statuses:

• development - proposed functionality; not completely implemented or implemented only experimentally
• production - stable version
• deprecated - stable version but will be retired at some point in the future
• retired - version is retired and no longer available
