Fall 2008 Goals

Resetting Tube Flocculator (9/4/08)

Become familiar with plant set-up and create semester goals (9/11/08)

Start up tube flocculator with vacuum pump (9/18/08)

  • all leaks in the pilot plant system must be fixed so that the plant can run in order to run tube flocculator.

Create floc profile for tube flocculator (9/26/08)

  • The turbidity of the flocculator will be measured at various points along the flocculator.
  • A profile similar to the one measured for the tapered flocculator will be made. Gtheta for maximum floc size will be determined.

 Write Midterm Report (10/14/08)

Measure settling velocity of flocs in the tube flocculator with and without upflow (11/5/08)

  • Construct settling columns. One will have an upflow velocity that is equivalent to the tanks upflow velocity. One will have still water.
  • The settling columns will be used to determine how floc size and density affects the critical terminal velocity of the flocs.

Tapered Flocculation

  • If time allows and alternative parameters for G and Gtheta are determined by the tube flocculator experiments, the Pilot Plant Team will investigate new baffle configurations for optimized flocculation .

Prepare final presentation and report (12/12/08)
