The Heading Widget provides a way to add headings to your pages. These are used to separate major areas of a page.

Common Steps for All Widgets

  • view the page you want to edit
  • click Edit button

General Guidelines

  • The Page Title is by default an H1 heading, and so all headings on your page should be H2 and any sub-headings in the H2 section should be H3.
  • H4 headings (or smaller) will be too similar to the text size on the page, and generally not recommended.
  • Do not use bold or italics as a substitute for a heading.
  • Do not skip heading levels. Proper order of headings helps screen readers understand the structure of the page.

Add Heading

  1. Click the plus sign on the left of the text field to open the widget selection window.

  2. In the Standard widgets section, select the HEADING widget
  3. Anything entered in the text field will now be treated as an H2 header. Type in the text for the heading:

  4. Click Save changes button to save and view the page.

  5. To create a third level heading H3, or a fourth level heading H4, do not use the header widget but rather use hashmarks (###) in the text field before the text. These level headings should only be used for sub-sections in order. Do not skip levels or this can upset the hierarchy making it difficult for screen readers and search engines to understand the structure of the page.
