Mesh

We will now go in Mechanical to give the blade a proper mesh. Named selections will be used to simplify the selection of surface bodies.

Summary of steps in the above video:

  1. Click on Model to open Mechanical
  2. Suppress the Fluid Geometry
  3. Named Surfaces
    1. Select all spar surface bodies
      1. Select a surface of the spar at the root by using the face selection filter then click extend to limits.
      2. Right click on the display window and select create named selections. Name it spar.
    2. Select all wetted blade surface bodies
      1. Select a surface on the outside shell by using the face selection filter then click extend to limits.
      2. Press the control key and select the tip surface.
      3. Right-click and select create named selections. Name it Blade surface.
  4. Insert mapped face meshing
    1. Change scoping method to Named Selections.
    2. Select the blade surface only.
  5. Insert Sizing
    1. Select all surfaces (right-click on the viewer and choose "select all").
    2. Specify the element sizes to be 0.2 meters.
  6. Click on Update
  7. Take a look at the mesh statistics.
    1. Skewness, very low! And orthogonality, very high!
