Test migration: License server, Stockroom Apps, etc.

Status

Jan 2017: Effort by Chemistry IT to move "all" admin systems to AWS, off of aging hardware (off-warranty: Coming up to ~4 years old).

CIT Cloudification Team's "ticket" (they use Jira):

  • [Cornell - JIRA] Commented (CLOUD-518) Chemistry - pilot migrate Windows server to AWS

Link to CIT’s Amazon AWS documentation:

Servers

Server #1: Windows

Consolidate services running in different VMs now:

  • License server
    • MAC address must be static. CIT's info: I wanted to follow up to give you an answer to the question about MAC addresses and how they work at AWS for your FlexLM license server. In short, the MAC address of the NIC associated with your instance stays static. This address stays even after a reboot or a stop/start. So you’d have to spin up a Windows instance at AWS, get the MAC address, update your FlexLM license, and then migrate the license serving function. At that point you should be all set.
  • Eastern printer server
  • Maybe: DeepFreeze server

Server #2: Windows

Stockroom App's Windows server

  • Intuit QuickBooks. Accessed via RDP.

Server #3: Linux

Stockroom App's Linux server

  • Web server (Apache). CUWebAuth. KFS queries.
  • Transaction data and other supporting databases (MySQL
  • Code (PHP).
  • No labels
