Research Adviser Responsibilities

The research adviser has a responsibility to provide the skills and guidance necessary so that students have the resources to run productive research teams all semester long. The page is designed to help the research adviser recognize specific tasks to get done as well as inform those considering the research adviser role.

Overview of tasks for Research Adviser

  • Familiarize yourself with each research project. Try to become as much of an expert for each research project and how each team should conduct their research before the semester begins.
  • Give input and review Detailed Task List each semester. Think about ways that teams can break down research into smaller pieces.
  • Train new students how to utilize Process Control software
  • Ensure that research teams are equipped with the resources and knowledge to conduct research
  • Hold weekly semester meetings with each research subteam
  • Check weekly meeting minutes that research teams submit on google docs every week
  • Ensure that teams are on task
  • Consult with Monroe and the Team Leader when problems arise
  • Encourage students to attend conferences and publish. Work with the research team to ensure that people are receiving credit for their research.
