Spring 2009's Contributions

During the Spring 2009 semester, I have worked with the Pilot Plant team on re-designing the hydraulic flocculator . I have worked on brainstorming and testing various ideas for new designs for the flocculator baffles. The existing baffles were fixed in place; we wanted baffles that could be continuously adjusted so we could easily vary the spacing for our experiments.

I also helped take apart the old baffles and build our new baffle system. I have been involved in preparing the pilot plant to get up and running again (replaced clogged tubing, cleaned and calibrated turbidimeters, and cleaned out flocculation tanks). I have helped in taking turbidity profiles, changing the configuration of the new adjustable baffle system, and troubleshooting problems that came up during that process (pretty much everything at the pilot plant has sprung a leak at one time in the last few weeks). Additionally, I have given the pilot plant wiki pages a thorough overhaul, deleting, organizing, updating, and combining old wiki pages into a site that accurately reflects the plant, is easy to find information in, and is well written. This should be of great assistance to subsequent teams.
