Step-by-step guide

  1. Your Floc Size and Count Application interface should look like Figure 1, to the right. There are two sections: Setup and Results.
  2. Under the Setup Section (Figure 2), you can
    1. choose your camera by clicking on the downward arrow to the right of
      the Camera Name label.
    2. To choose a folder for the images to be saved to, click on the icon next to the Pic Folder label, and select a directory.
    3. The Time(s)/Analysis label can be changed by simply typing a number inside it. If you type in 1, then a picture will be taken every 30 frames, which is approximately 1 second.
    4. If you click on the Filtering Controls Tab, you can choose options that work best for the research you are doing. However, the default options are often the optimal choices.
  3. In the Results Section,
    1. The Live Video Tab shows the pictures being taken from the camera, allowing the user to see what he/she is taking pictures of. In addition, the "Test" button is in the Live Video Tab. When the Test button is pressed, the camera will start taking images and the floc application will begin processing the images. To stop taking images, click on the Test button again. The green light next to the Test button should turn off.
    2. To visualize the results of the processing step, click on the Results tab. The Floc Count Label gives an up-to-date value for the total number of flocs found in all of the pictures taken thus far. In addition, it displays the processed/analyzed image.
    3. The Diameter Info Tab allows the user to visualize the average size of the flocs with a histogram. The number of bars in the histogram can be changed by clicking on the up and down arrows next to the bins label.
