At the beginning of the each month, CIT provides a list of sponsored NetID's that will expire that month to the department chair.
The department chair provides that list to Chemistry IT. Chemistry IT sends an email to faculty member associated with each sponsored NetID making them aware of the potential expiration and reminding them of the steps involved.

If the faculty member continues to need these NetIDs to be sponsored, the associated faculty member must:

1. Send an email to Chemistry IT <ChemIT@cornell.edu>, cc'ing the department chair (currently David Collum <dbc6>) providing the following information:

  • The name of the person who needs a NetID
  • The NetID to be extended
  • How long they need the NetID for, with a maximum of one year of length ( they can be renewed yearly indefinitely as needed )
  • The reason the person needs their NetID extended
  • Michael's tips, from May 2016:

    • Spelling matters - otherwise it looks like Nigerian spam and illegitimate at CIT
    • Wording is important and don't make CIT Helpdesk think.

2. Chemistry IT will provide an authorization form to the departmental chair to sign.

  • Michael's method (as of May 2016): Print letter directly to Chair's Office. Joyce knows what to do.

3. Chemistry IT will forward the Chemistry departmental approval to CIT for processing. Processing usually is very quick as a NetID is not being created.

4. The NetID will be extended.

If a NetID is not renewed, CIT will provide one last notice to the department chair. The department chair provides notice to Chemistry IT who will attempt one last time to make the appropriate faculty member aware of the situation.
