Interview data - company 5

(1)     How did your contact with Cornell originate?

Knowing faculty members as well as through Cornell Alumni

(2)     From your perspective, was your experience working with Cornell successful?

Some yes, some no.

(3)     What were your original objectives?

Original objectives were to understand Cornell Nanoscale facility as well as developing collaborative projects with Cornell to solve some critical technology problem

(4)     Were these objectives achieved?  If not, why not?

The first objective was met and we have been using the cleanroom facility at Cornell since.  As collaborative projects, it depends.  If we are providing funding, it usually works well.  However Cornell faculties are very focused on publication and the impact of their work on technology is not very high.  Also Cornell professors are less "hungry" and may be they are well funded??

(5)     If you have experiences dealing with other universities, how would you compare your experience with Cornell?

Some of us have a lot of experience with other universities.  They all like your money, but most universities are more cooperative.  Cornell faculties seem to just interest in publications.

(6)     What changes would you recommend Cornell make in its relationships with industry?

(a) Cornell has to give a more favorable IP terms to industry.  (b) Faculty members should be more concern with sponsor's goal in addition to funding.

(7)     What specific part of the process contributed to making this interaction stand out from others?

N.A.
