Silicone vs. No Silicone (No wind)
The tests were done with the medium cooker built in Fall '08. Each test had 5lb of water in
1 pot, centered. Tests were run to assess the significance of adding silicone caulking on the
outside and inside glass panes.
The time it took to run a standard test without silicone is 51.9 minutes, which falls between
the 95% confidence interval of the tests with silicone, between 50.16 and 52.89 minutes
with a mean of 51.53 minutes. Therefore, there is no statistically significant difference at a
95% confidence level. However, we ran only one test in the without silicone no wind
condition and this may contribute to the statistical insignificance.
