"Chemical Dose Controller" Meeting Minutes

Spring 2009 Minutes

"July 24, 2009"

Working Group: Chemical Dose Controller

Accomplishments
  • This week we tested different retrofit designs to be placed inside the LFOM of tubing.
  • The current LFOM's diameter we tested on the pilot plant is 7.5cm, placing a tube with a diameter of 5cm at a flow rate of 150gal/min or less and 6cm tubing at a flow rate of 145 gal/min or less reduced bubble formation.
Based on our MathCAD calculations, the 6cm diameter tubing is suitable fit for 8cm diameter of LFOM.
    Issues
  • The LFOM over flows above 150 gal/min for 5cm diameter tubing and the 6cm diameter tubing over flows the LFOM at the flow rate of 150 gal/min. We are trying to figure out the best tubing to be placed inside the LFOM at the max flow rate for Honduras water plant's.

Since we were running the experiment on 7.5cm diameter LFOM, which is less diameter used in the water plants in Cuatro Comunidades, even if water over flowed upon placing of the 6cm diameter tubing at 150 gak/min, this result made us confident that this tubing would work, bearing in mind that Cuatro Comunidades water plant's max flow rate is 100 gal/min.

  • Plans for action
We already calculated on MathCAD that the 6cm diameter tubing is suitable fit for 8cm diameter of LFOM.
If possible make a 8cm diameter LFOM and run similar testes for suitable tubing fits.
    Goals for upcoming week

Finish up design work and work on non-linear dose control MathCAD file.
