Linear Chemical Dose Controller (LCDC/LFOM)

The linear Chemical Dose Controller (LCDC) is a critical piece of the AguaClara technology which couples the plant flow rate with the flow rate of the coagulant or disinfectant stock solution. The result is a semi-automated system in which the plant operator only needs to set a dose for the chemical and it will be administered automatically as the plant flow rate varies. The system has evolved steadily with major advances every year. The ability to accurately and predictably control the alum and chlorine dosages without electricity sets AguaClara apart from other water treatment technologies.

Spring 2013: The main tasks of the Spring 2013 team are to fabricate a new chemical dose controller and improve on the design created during Fall 2012. Challenges include finding a coating that is more chemical resistant than anodization for the lever arm, creating a manifold system that is chemical resistant, determining a method of scaling up the constant head tank for larger flow rates,  making improvements to the tank floats to prevent excessive movement in the entrance tank at some plants in Honduras, retrofitting existing plants in Honduras, preparing clear, concise product data sheets and AutoCAD drawings, experimenting and determining how well the system behaves as compared to MathCAD output (especially the dosing tube length), and finally, determining if the dosing system should be manufactured and sold by AguaClara LLC or produced locally in the host country or a combination of both.
