Ram Pump

The Ram Pump team will design and construct a ram pump and hydraulic testing facility during the spring of 2012. Our goal is to build a ram pump for testing in a water treatment plant in Honduras during the summer of 2012.

Current & Future Research

A modular prototype of a ram pump is currently being designed for data collection and ease of testing design alternatives. Once installed in the hydraulic testing facility, the pump will be tested under a variety of varying design parameters. These parameters will include air chamber volume, drive pipe length, inlet elevation drop, and valve type. Using data collected from these experiments, our pump design and construction methods will be evaluated and optimized for implementation in an AguaClara plant.
