Spring 2011 Mid-Semester Contributions
As the Sedimentation Team is working on a new project, much of the research so far has been in design. I worked with Yiwen to design the tube flocculator so that the energy dissipation rate is approximately but does not exceed 10 mW/kg, the scouring velocity is sufficient to prevent settling out, the flow is laminar, and the residence time is such that flocs of reasonable size are produced. Much of the design work has also included contributing to a Research Rationale with figures drawn to scale, and working together to create a materials list for our new set-up.
