Teach-In

Assignment

The teach-ins are meant to be a way for team members to become more fluent when talking about their projects, and for all AguaClara students to learn about the work being done on the other sub-teams. The primary goal is to teach the class what you are doing and tie your work into what is being done with AguaClara.

The design team presentation should include:

  • A brief overview of the AguaClara water treatment technology and a visual of how water flows in the plant
  • How the design tool works
  • What individual subteams are doing and how this is relevant to AguaClara

The research team presentation should include:

  • An overview of the problem you are researching and how it is connected to AguaClara plant performance
  • A theory section with appropriate equations and/or animations and explanations
  • A detailed schematic of the apparatus with an appropriate explanation of how it is operated
  • A section on how data is analyzed and how results are interpreted

In general the presentation will benefit with:

  • Great visuals
  • Less text
  • Practice by teams before the presentation
  • Careful editing and thought with each of your slides

You can also use some of your time explaining obstacles or challenges you are facing and requesting feedback from the class.

Grading

The teach-ins are meant to be fun and informative and will give Monroe a good idea of how well you understand and can communicate about the work you are doing. All team members should try to participate in giving the teach-in presentation.

This semester we are enforcing teach-ins time limits. Research Teams will have a total of 20 minutes for presentation with 5 minutes for Q & A. The design team will have a total of 45 minutes for presentation and 15 minutes for Q & A. Please arrive early the day of your presentation to load your presentation on the class computer.

Your team will receive full credit for the teach-in if new team members participate in speaking, good visuals are used to clearly convey the concepts your team is working with, you try to follow the suggestions posted on this page and you respect the time limits.

Wiki Organization

Each team should attach their Teach-In presentation to a page called "Team Name Presentations" (ex: Design Presentations) that is a child page of the team's main page.

To do this you must:

  1. Sign in to the wiki
  2. Click the Edit Tab
  3. Click Attachments
  4. Upload your PowerPoint presentation, titled with your team name and then semester
  5. Add a heading for the current semester
  6. Make the words Teach In a link to the presentation by putting a bracket, then the words Teach In, then a vertical line (by typing the shift key and the back slash key at the same time), then ^FileName.pptx replacing FileName with whatever the name of your file is, and then an ending bracket.
