 Possibilities for Mobile Use

Notifications and alerts

  • Availability of computers, study rooms, laptops, etc
  • Books due or on hold 
  • Events (Twitter)
  • New resources

Tours and orientation

  • Virtual tours (video, QR codes, cell phone)
  • Attaching pieces of information to physical locations (exhibits, items of interest, services, instructions)
  • Augmented reality--being able to navigate your way to a book in the stacks

Information:

  • Mobile websites (have CUL one; Mann site?)
  • Ereaders for textbooks
  • Training (manual for Stone ops and reference) and data entry for student workers (collection of stats would be easier)

  • Text messaging reference (already doing)

Hyperlocal apps

  • Foursquare (http://foursquare.com/), etc: students can announce their presence, find their friends, impromptu study groups (privacy issues)

Participation: polling, quizzes and  forms

  • Can ask for feedback, use in classes if no clickers

Learning: formal class and complementary materials (LMS and ebooks---no value added except access)
