Challenges for Fall 2009

Subteam Leader:

  • Tanya or Ling
  • One can lead the physical modeling (Tanya) one the computer modeling (Ling)

Number of team members needed:

  • 4-6 members

Important team member skills:

  • Process Controller (can be trained)
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Mathcad

Challenges

  • Calculate the theoretical amount of bubble formation potential that could be produced by the supersaturator operating at 100 kPa and compare that with the volume fraction of bubbles removed by the sand filters.
  • Create
  • Accurately measuring the total amount of gas in the influent and the effluent
  • Implementing the sand filter method in the pilot plant
  • Mathcad modeling of system (sand grain sizes, flow rates, bed depth, and expansion) relationship between bed expansion, sand grain size, flow rate, depth of sand, tank cross sectional area and anything else they can think of.
  • Team should have an even number of people so they can split into even teams, one for computer modeling one for larger scale physical modeling. The second sub team should probably work with the pilot plan team
  • The two sub sub teams should meet regularly and group think any problems, they should all communicate with each other. They can all work on both things at the same time and not split up if that works better
