Goals for Spring 2009
Subteam Leader: Nadia Siles
Other team members
- Steve Mitchell
- Julia Schoen
- Henry Zeng
Challenges
- Create more comprehensive MathCAD program to design and model CD performance
- Steve and Henry, throughout Spring 2009
- Create a robust algorithm for float sizing
- Steve and Henry, March 3, 2009
- We will need to test if the pipe is sized too small to accommodate the flow rate which the orifice pattern is designed to deliver and if the LFOM will fail for all flow rates. This hypothesis could be easily tested by using the momentum approach to determine the maximum flow rate out of the bottom of the LFOM for all water depths. This should be tested by doing the analysis in MathCAD. This should be a trivial extension of the design challenge in 4540.
- Steve, Henry, Nadia and Julia, March 30, 2009
- Write a initial draft of an article for Journal of Water Supply: Research and Technology-AQUA documenting the design and performance of the dose controller.
- Nadia, Julia, Steve, Henry, throughout Spring 2009
- Experimentally, determine how small the chemical doser vertical drop tubing can be before the open channel flow or free fall fails
- Nadia, Steve, Julia, March 3, 2009
- Develop methods for dosing with the CD when not next to the entrance tank (can use a small float tank that is connected hydraulically to the entrance tank or a pulley system)
- Nadia, Julia, March 3, 2009
- Work with the team in Honduras and potentially UNAH students to get the prototype in Tamara working
- Nadia, Julia, Henry, March 3, 2009
- Midterm Wiki Report
- Nadia, Julia, Steve, Henry, March 13, 2009
- Design a dose controller that will work for chemical flow rates in excess of 400 mL/min. This design is needed for the Gracias plant. This dose controller will use orifice flow in the entrance tank flow meter and in the flow controller.
