Team Precipitation
Fall 2008 Minutes
10/8/08
Accomplishments
- Discussed Monroe's thoughts about solving the problem.
- Monroe believes that the addition of HCl to chlorine could react with chlorine. He also believes that it would be difficult to get to aguaclara plants.
- I believe that the current test we are performing is not providing us any insight on the precipitation problem.
- Discussed new strategies for solving our problem, like a settling test in a graduated cylinder.
Goals for the week
- Beginning the settling test and observing the results once a day.
Outcomes
- We have decided to stop the current lab test of running the calcium hypochlorite through the flow controller for now.
- Going to start a settling observation test.
- Ideally after we have a better idea of how fast and how completely the settling occurs we will design a procedure for settling and filtering the calcium carbonate out of solution
