Accomplishments
11/09/08
- removed sutro-weir support structure
- played with alum dosing making sure flow rate stays steady and used tank light to determine optimal floc formation
- bought pvc and created connection, so the inlet doesn't pour in over baffles
- bought pvc pipe to cut to reconfigure uniform spacing
- replaced light bulb in tank light, so we can observe floc formation in the flocculator
11/10
- determined that energy dissipation in uniform flocculator was too low
11/11
- Henry and Christine cut pvc piping for uniform baffles (15cm).
- played with alum dosing instead of increment
11/13
- met with Monroe
11/15
- replaced uniform baffles with tapered baffles
- took apart uniform baffles
- began to replace with 15 cm spacing but decided against it because there might not be enough energy dissipation
- alum pump failure due to stamp box disconnection while replacing baffles
- need to fix stamp box
11/16
- fixed stamp box by unplugging/ replugging connections,
- set up siphon to clean tank
- discussed options for tube flocculator tubing/ set up with Mark
- discussed options for grounding tank/ need to ask tom
- played with alum dose
11/17
- MathCAD tutorial
- determined baffle spacing with minimum energy dissipation requirement of .4 mW/kg
Outcomes
- need to replace baffles in uniform flocculator and end of tapered flocculator with 13 cm spacing
- need to replace baffles/ recut pvc
- Tom is ordering tubing for tube flocculator
Issue
- pump
- electric current in tank
