Working Group: Fluidized Bed Method

Accomplishments

• Put together the system with larger tubes and drilled out the necessary parts
• Emailed Cameron and requested a web cam for the sand filter. Met with Cameron to clarify the request.
• Finished the teach-in presentation
• Started to revise the research proposal and detailed task list.
• Started working on midterm wiki.
• Worked with Matt on the leaking problem (See Issues below). Decided to order metal clamps. If that fails, we will attempt to place a very large fitting into the tubing
• Decided to start literature searches while experimental setup is not working properly.
• Decided to start going over MathCAD work while experiments are down.

Issues

• Clogging in the sand filter needs to be addressed
• Leaks in the system due to fitting/connector issues near pumps, may be due to pressure in the lines.

Goals for upcoming week

• Fix leak problem
• Fix clogging problem/find a minimum expansion for which clogging doesn't happen and use a greater expansion for subsequent experiments.
• Finish revising midterm wiki
• Finish revising research proposal/detailed task list.
• Start the first planned set of experiments, hopefully.
