September 21st MaLT Meeting

In attendance: Jim, Gabriel, Camille, Sara

•     We’re still waiting to hear a price quote from Apple on what it would cost to implement the ipads, etc. that they previewed for us at the end of August.  I think we all agreed that much of what they showed us wasn’t feasible for Mann at this time.

•     Apple Workshops – most likely will be in Mann 102; if you have any other questions that you would like to see added to either session please email Gabe

o   Library Info session will be held on 10/26 from 10-11:30am

o   Tech Info session will be held 10/26 from 1-2:30pm

•     Staff Technology Trainings

o   iPad in libraries webinar on Oct. 13 & 20th  from 2:30-4pm.  There are also other training opportunities for staff (an ebooks webinar on 10/12 and EDUCAUSE virtual conference 10/18&19). We will be working with RAU instead of Usability committee on user studies going      forward.

•     Our official new charge isn’t out but the gist of it is that we will be focusing our efforts on a  specific area each year, i.e. Bissett Space, Computer Classrooms & Conference Rooms, Group Study Rooms, and probably another one or two areas, and then we would begin the cycle again.  This year our focus is going to be the Bissett Space and what we can add/re-design to make the space more user friendly and provide students with the technology that they need.  We’ll review an official new charge at next month’s meeting.

Moving forward:

•        Sara is going to check with John Pfleiderer about the possibility of teaming with CIT to purchase Teamspot for Mann and get a rough price estimate per Teamspot zone.

•     Camille will investigate Steelcase whiteboards and get a price quote as well as speak with someone in the textiles department about the possibility of their students created sound-proofing mobile art.

o   Check with Matt to see if he found any possible sound proofing solutions when he looked into it for the AV production room.

•     Gabriel is going to check on the ports and networking possibilities for the Bissett space to make sure we have the freedom to place furniture, computers, and LCD screens however it would work best in that space.

•     Sara will contact Agati furniture and see if they might be willing to do a mock set-up of some of the furniture we are interested in so we can get student feedback on what they like best.

•     Finally, we are going to get ready to do our user study and we need to come up with a list of survey questions before we submit our proposal to IRB.  Please come to the next meeting on October 19thprepared to help come up with a list of questions that we can ask

students to determine what they are looking for as far as furniture, space, software, & technology for the Bissett area.
