Agenda / Minutes

Announcements:* Thomas is working with the team run by Deb Schmidle on the "Get Started" brochure for faculty.  The deadline for this brochure is May 2012.  Aim is to have a paper brochure that also points to a online page.* Kaila is working with Gwen on tweaking the Get Started brochure launched last year for new undergrads.

  • Kaila will be facilitating the February instruction discussion reading (Feb 21st).

ACRL Cornell Immersion

ACRL Immersion program will come to Cornell, May 7 - 11th, 2012

  • The ACRL Immersion program will be led by three faculty: Deb Gilchrist, Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe & Beth S. Woodward.  Margot Cohanan is the program's coordinator.
  • The program is customizable; PSEC instruction will choose the track or focus for the immersion week (program, teacher and/or assessment).  Camille and Gaby will share what their immersion programs covered so the team can have an idea of what is covered in each area.
  • 45 slots are open.  Library staff who teach will be encouraged to attend. If there are slots available, library administrators and campus staff might be invited to attend (e.g., CTE or faculty or other teaching staff.  Linda Bryan will also be invited to attend).
  • PSEC Instruction will send the ACRL Immersion faculty select documents about our instruction program and IL efforts, as well as a statement about our objectives, expectations and goals for the Immersion program.
  • Funding for food and venue is still needed.
  • Planning and Logistics - venue and caterer are still to be determined. Possibilities include: ILR conference center, Plantations, Rooms in Mann Library (Bissett, 101, 160).  PSEC will work on planning and logistics down the road (biweekly meetings have been added to our calendars to accomplish this).
  • A suggestion was made for a longitudinal study -- changes in instruction (learning?) brought about by our move to build an IL program.
  • Jaron, at Janet's request, is meeting with Library unit Directors on January 30th to share news about the Immersion program.

Unit Discussions on IL (liaison)

Recap from December '11 meeting.* Members of PSEC are encouraged to discuss and encourage conversations with faculty about IL within their own units (conversations between subject selectors, teaching librarians or other outreach/liaison staff that work with faculty).
