Ideas if wanting a better video conferencing system for use within the Faculty Lounge

There is a (derelict?) video conferencing system in the CCB Faculty Lounge

  • What value does it serve to remain there?

What might it take to replace it with a contemporary system?

A projector, networking, and power are already in the room. What is needed is a video conferencing system, connecting it and mounting so it is in the right location, and service to right things when things go wrong (including a maintenance or service contract?).

  • Invite CIT experts to evaluate and give us a quote. Is it close to $5,000? (Let's hope not $12,500!)
    • If want a higher quality projector, that will obviously cost more money.
  • Determine if EMC2's unit would work. If so, discuss with them if having it in the Faculty Lounge gives them any benefits, especially if costs (maintenance, repair, replacement) might be shared. :-) Clearly not as convenient a location, but that space does hold more people.
    • EMC2 system is a Cisco Tandberg, Nov 2010 with one year maintenance. $995/yr annual maintenance, but don't know if that's possible to re-start. It's very small and nominally can be moved from room to room as necessary (with networking requirements, 'natch.)
