Department-wide issue. Chemisty IT upgraded to A&S IT's v14 servers a while ago.

Considerations

  • Not all Chemistry DBs can move since A&S IT's FileMaker servers can host them all on one server.
    • Which can be removed? (erhaps some only used by one person, so can be on a file share and not a server?!

Data points

Becky Reagan's iMac was upgraded to 10.13 (High Sierra). That OS won't run FMPro v11.

The idea/ plan, as of 4/4/2018:

  • Lab Services has 28 FMPro DBs.
  • Migrate 26 (all but 2) of her DBs (Lab Services) to v14.
  • Ensure FMPro upgraded on her iMac, Ralph's PC, and iMac in PSB. (To v16+.)
  • The 2 remaining DBs stay on v11.
    • They are "Last name" and "Course Sections".
    • They interact with Carl's ChemGrades DBs, currently in v11, so must remain on v11.
    • Becky will need the FMPro v11 client (on a Windows loaner laptop, for example) when she needs to access those, occasionally.
      • Becky's need for these 2 DBs is 2-3x per semester.
    • The last 2 DBs will be migrated when ChemGrads DBs get upgraded.
    • Alternative idea: Migrate the last 2 DBs to v14. Then 2-3x per semester, provide converted v14 copies of Carl's ChemGrades DBs (currently in v11), until those are moved to v14. (She only needs to "read" the data, so no data to "return"!) Can do this by loaning her a PC on those occasions. Or, giving her copies Tu makes available to us via FTP. Or, some other way?
