End of Semester Update
My work in the second half of the semester has revolved around the design and construction of the sludge blanket tank. Working with Kevin and Sara, I redesigned the tank 3 or 4 times to account for vaious issues we encountered with construction, hydraulics and water treatment. I then finalized a new layout for the sed tank that would allow for the eventual inclusion of a lamella tank. I also helped with the construction phase of the project, as well as the additions we had to make during the first few days of operation (the hopper support structure). I also helped Sara with adding to and editing the sedimentation wiki page.
Mid-Term Semester Update
So far this semester I have spent a majority of my time so far at the water treatment plant making modifications on the Pilot Plant. Work this semester has been particularly challenging as the pilot plant required many repairs. The first thing we did was drain the tank of the excess sludge that has been building up over the last year and a half. Then I worked on resizing the section holes and refitting all of the baffle connections. Then I designed and installed the added pressure device for the turbidity meters. My next work involved the new construction on the flow meter as well as installation of Leah's automated flow device. My recent work has been on designing and laying out the plan for the sedimentation tank. This has been difficult since the layout of the pilot plant is severely restricting our design options. I was involved in getting the plant up and running this week, and I hope to finalize our design plan this week, so that we can begin construction after spring break and get into data analysis.
