Spring 2015 Contributions

This semester, I have been working on the Materials List challenge as a member of the Design Team. Continuing the work done by the previous years' Design Team, I have worked together with Ewa to further test  the blocking functions they created and continue converting the rest of the drawing code for the plant to include blocking code. The purpose of this is to help expedite the process of retrieving a hydraulic materials list from the AguaClara plant drawings. Instead of manually counting how many different parts there are (such as pipes of different diameter and length and elbows of different diameter), the blocking functions (written in MathCAD) turn the objects in the AutoCAD drawing into "blocks" which are countable in the AutoCAD program. They can be assigned attributes and names which can then be extracted into a Materials List in Excel. So far, we have blocked the components of the Entrance Tank and are currently working on solving some blocking issues that arose while continuing to work on the rest of the plant. We are also working on finding a way to automate the data extraction process from AutoCAD into an Excel file, which would make the process even more simple and efficient.
