Fall 2009 Mid-Semester Contributions

As a new member of the Design Team I have been working on updating the materials list per request of the engineers in Honduras. Most of the challenge has been learning to navigate the Aguaclara online infrastructure and design applications; however, my partner Caspar Valk and I have made substantial additions to the materials list Mathcad code as well. Our focus has been on decomposing total volumes for each component of the plant into separate volumes and surface areas for the walls and floors. To this point we have completed calculations for the entrance, flocculation, and sedimentation tanks, as well as and exit channel. We hope these changes will be helpful to the engineers in the future.

Fall 2009 Final-Semester Contributions

My design team partner Caspar Valk and I finished up our work this semester by adding area and volume calculations for the alum stock tank, distribution tunnel covers, inlet and exit channels, and the flocculation baffles. As part of the process, we added MathType equations to the Materials List wiki for all of the changes we made this semester. We also added sub-area and sub-volume variables to the variable naming guide under the materials list section. Challenges for next semester include verifying our work through several test runs of the automated design tool, as well as checking in with the engineers in Honduras to make sure we are all on the same page.

Spring 2010 Contributions

I am currently a member of the Automated Design Tool team. My new partner Olivia Harris and I will be working on the materials list this semester.
