Spring 2011 Mid-Semester Contributions

I am the main organizer and leader of the Structure Team. I have been helping to get the structure team up and running since we are a brand new subteam to the AguaClara project. I contacted Professor Kenneth Hover, and he has agreed to advise us in our endeavors. I also serve as the liason between the Structures team and Dan Smith as well as Santiago Garcia. With their assistance, I compiled the information necessary to complete our tasks in a working MathCAD document. I have worked on analyzing the design of columns in the flocculator tank to withstand the moments created by the water in the tank. I am focusing on determining the moment in the column at incipient cracking. Currently, I am working to automate the design of columns given the desired dimensions of a tank. In addition, I helped update the wiki and compile our calculations in our reports and teach-in. Using the information I learned in concrete design has been really interesting and I look forward to contributing to the AguaClara project.
