Spring 2009 Contributions

This semester I have been working on the Design team. Initially we were working on completing some design details for the plant in Cuatro Comunidades. Then Reiko Baugham and I completed a design for a small plant (3 L/s) in Ecuador for Professor Castillo. We also compiled a design report explaining the components and processes of the plant that was sent to him. This is a document that will be improved with feedback from the engineers in Honduras and will eventually become a template for design reports to be sent to future partners. My role was to create labeled drawings of each of the major components of the plant to incorporate in the report.

Other work this semester has been updating the MathCAD Files to reflect changes in the design. I specifically worked on updating the Sludge Drain file to accommodate a rectangular sludge drain channel rather than the PVC pipe that was used previously. This also required updating the Sedimentation Program because the new design changes the thickness of the plate that covers the sludge drain and hence the vertical layout of the sedimentation tanks. I also updated the algorithms on the wiki for both the Sludge Drain and the Inlet Channel so that they accurately describe the algorithms used in design.
