Spring 2013 Contributions

This semester I am working with the Flocculation/Sedimentation Optimization team. Our goal is to determine the optimal coagulant dose to produce a good floc blanket using PACl. In order to reduce the loss of coagulant to the tubing walls, we will install a reactor in place of the rapid mix chamber and mix raw water and coagulant by creating a hydraulic jet on the raw water inlet side. We will add a camera to monitor the floc blanket status in real time. This camera will be interfaced to work with Process Controller and automatically detect the height of the floc blanket and return summary values of it. Varying the coagulant dose, floc blanket build times will be measured and compared with the theoretical values. When we develop the method to build a good floc blanket, we will add floc recycle and run the experiment.
