Flocculator Efficiency Team

This semester, I worked in the Flocculator Efficiency research team. Our team's goal was to optimize the vertical flow flocculator used by AguaClara water plants by reducing "dead" regions above the lower baffles. We hypothesized that introducing obstacles between the baffles and constricting the space that water can flow through will increase its upward fluid velocity and consequently minimize dead zones. Throughout the semester, I helped the team design and build the model flocculator that we needed to visualize our problem and run tests to observe whether our hypothesis with the obstacles were correct. I was mainly responsible for recording data of the experiments we ran with our model flocculator. I recorded videos of the trials we ran every time we changed any parameters in the flocculator (i.e. adding obstacles, changing placeholder size, changing channel width between the obstacle and the baffle) and took pictures of our experiments throughout the process and organized them on the subteam Google Drive.
