Spring 2011 Stock Tank Mixing Team

The Stock Tank Mixing Team Spring 2011 started the research with dissolution system for aluminum chloride, after being informed that PACl is less dense than water, we changed the research focus to inventing a mixing system for PACl solution.

For the research related to alum, I helped to design and set up both the down-flow and up-flow system. I mainly conducted the experimental results analysis and, together with my team mates, hypothesize the key factors for dissolution efficiency.

For the PACl mixing system, I created the MathCAD file of the calculations for: 1) "Worst case scenario" potential energy difference; 2) Energy input from dumping water into high concentrated solution; 3) Centrifugal related calculations. And I also carried out the method to estimate the efficiency of the tube stirrer by compare the theoretical and experimental results. I also worked together with other team members to conduct the experiment for the three mixing system (Dumping water into solution, Tube stirrer, and Centrifugal pump).
