Fall 2014 Contributions

This Fall, the Distribution System Contamination Prevention Team focused primarily on completing an in-depth analysis of potential avenues of recontamination to assess how relevant these pathways are to the distribution systems moving water treated by AguaClara. We focused on literature reviews centered on recontamination occurrences in intermittent distribution systems for the first part of the semester. Once we identify potential mechanisms of intrusion, we plan to model them in AutoCAD and provide solutions in how to mitigate these problem.

    For Spring 2015:

    • Our team has been preparing for the EPA P3 competition in Washington, D.C. that will take place this April. I have been focused on helping with the editing process of our proposal, as well as creating the EPA P3 poster.
    • Our team is also focused on creating a scaled-down model of the foam filtration process to take to our competition in April. I help in brainstorming the design for the model.
    • We have also completed bi-weekly reports on our status in experimentation with the foam filter in the lab.

Spring 2015 Final : This semester, our team was focused on preparing for our EPA P3 competition in April. My main contribution to this effort was designing and producing the poster to take to the competition. Additionally, I kept meeting minutes for our weekly meetings and scheduled meetings and helped delegate tasks to meet up-coming deadlines for the EPA competition. We also met regualrly with an EPA coach, who helped us prepare our presentation and teach us about what kind of questions to expect and how judging would work. Our team traveled to D.C. for the weekend-long competition and spent both days answering questions from passionate attendees and participants about the foam filter technology.

I also took part in running lab experiments with Ethan, Marlana, and Alena throughout the semester as we studied backwash cleaning efficiency and the behavior of the flocs within the foam itself. We all played an equal part in preparing our reports and presentations for the semester symposiums!
