We started first by doing literature search regarding pipe bend simulation. We found data on 3D pipe simulations. We tried to model the 3D pipe, however with little success. The 3D simulation is more difficult than we expected.

As the semester progress, we decided to go ahead with the modeling of the pilot plan and proceed with 2D modeling of the plan. We modeled the flocculation tank with two baffles. The modeling process started with creation of geometry in Gambit. With the geometry, mesh was then created. Fluent was then used to analysis and obtain the solution. Applying proper boundary condition, we obtained pressure drop and velocity gradient profile along the flocculation tank. Our result shows good agreement with what we should expect. We further validate our solution by checking mesh convergence, further refining the mesh, use enhanced wall treatment, different turbulence model, boundary layer refinement. We work together most of the time. Yong Sheng's focus has been on geometry and mesh creation using Gambit while Jorge's has been more on obtaining a solution using Fluent. We analyze the results together.
