Overview of Methods

It is known that Natural Organic Matter (NOM) affects flocculation and, hence, turbidity of the effluent water. Not only does NOM interact with the coagulant used (Alum), but it also reacts with the clay.

A series of experiments with different NOM doses are planned to analyze the effects of NOM in the effluent water as well as the amount of NOM in the effluent water.

The experimental set-up is the same as used in Spring 2009,with the addition of a pH meter and and an acid dose control to keep the pH of the influent constant at 6.
