Pilot Plant Team Meeting Minutes

Spring 2009 Minutes

April 3, 2009

Working Group: 1

Accomplishments
  • Cut pex tubing into .051 m pieces to use as spacers
  • Finished second set of adjustable baffles to allow for hot swapping
  • Cut and capped rapid mix tube to allow for higher plant flows since water level in the tube was already very high for a low flow rate and would overflow if increased
  • Fixed where dosing of alum (or PAC) was taking place to guarantee appropriate mixing of coagulant before flocculation
    • Before the coagulant took a really long time to get into the flocculator due to water backing up.
  • Set up plant for dosing with polyaluminum chloride (PAC)
  • Determined method for normalizing turbidity profile data
  • Set up flow meter to read in L/min
Outcomes
  • Plant is nearly ready for testing.
Issues
  • Process controller needs to be adjusted to dose PAC in ppm and the pump speed needs to be set up to have 10 m/day settling velocity in the tube settlers.

Working Group: 2

Accomplishments
  • More work on organizing Wiki pages
  • Consolidated pages on plant troubleshooting

Any Overall Team Comments:

Monroe came to our team meeting at the Pilot Plant on Friday, April 3rd, and helped us to start setting the plant in motion as well as discussed with us courses of action. For each set of baffles in the plant, flow rates of 100 L/min and 50 L/min will be tested, with the 50 L/min better representing setup for actual plants.
