Milli-Sedimentation Team

The purpose of this subteam is to test the boundaries of sedimentation and filtration. The apparatus being designed will address what is too small for sedimentation and too big for filtration to occur.

Current & Future Research

Introduction

The Milli-Sedimentation Team is a new team for the Fall 2016 semester. The goal of this team is to design a sedimentation apparatus at a small scale. This goal of this apparatus is to serve as both a sedimentation tank and a filter. This apparatus will be designed using coffee straws that are sized between small plate settlers and filter material. The straws be designed in a honeycomb fashion. We will also look into using red dye to track the movement of flocs. One of the biggest challenges for the semester will be attempting to clean the apparatus, as this will determine the feasibility of the design.
