Linear Flow Orifice Meter PVC Price Variation as a funtion of Pipe Diameter

Intro:

The mathcad code currently assumes only one riser pipe for calculations but in some instances, such as a very large plant, it would be more practical to construct several riser pipes. The main considerastion considered in this study is the price of the PVC pipe as the idamter changes. Since there won't be a large amount of pressure on the pipe schedule 40 pipe should be suitable one example of schedule is included for comparison and completeness. Three resources were used to find information on PVC price as a function of pipe diameter:

Sources
  1. McMasterCarr, website , these values were based on white schedule 40 PVC pipe.
  2. Granger, website , these values were based on white schedule 40 PVC pipe
  3. US Plastics, website , these values were based on gray schedule 80 and white schedule 40 PVC pipe, note gray schedule 40 PVC pipe is the same price as white schedule 40 PVC pipe.

Results

Figure 1: The figure is a graphical representation of the price of PVC pipe as a function of pipe diameter.

Figure 2: The figure is a graphical representation of the price of PVC pipe as a function of pipe diameter and in this case the small diameters are highlighted.

The excel spreadsheet with the primary data is available here

Discussion

The results provide the background information to make an educated decision on the maximum allowable pipe diameter for the linear orifice flow meter according to price pressures. Currently I am unsure of the budget for the LFOM, with that information specification is possible.
