This semester our team's end goal is to standardize the hydraulic profile of the AguaClara automative design.

With this main goal in mind we have come up with a list of minor goals to accomplish including:

  1. Respond to any questions posed in weekly progress reports from John and Carol.
  2. Develop the hydraulic profile for the Marcala water treatment plant
  3. Updating/Standardizing Hydraulic Design MathCad programs.
  4. Design the launder effluent pipes for the Marcala water treatment plant
  5. Design and build a scaled version of the drainage system and launder effluent for
the sedimentation tank in the pilot plant.

The big goal for the Hydraulic Design team is to create the design algorithms that specify

    • pipe sizes
    • orifice sizes
    • valve sizes
    • flow measurement design
    • plant level tank design
    • all critical plant elevations

The algorithms must be able to return all of these parameters based on a plant flow rate. The algorithms must obtain pipe sizes from a pipe size database based on the schedule or SDR of the pipe.

    Additional hydraulic design tasks include:

    • The system used to fill an empty sedimentation tank with clean water. This will be done in the plant level tank possibly by inserting a pipe into the empty sed tank outflow that is the same height as the weir. A coupling could possible be added to the weir to force all of the plant water to flow back into the empty sed tank. There may be other solutions to this task.
    • design of the devices that will be used to close the influent and effluent of the sed tanks. They could be short sections of pipe closed off with a plug (with our without a handle that protrudes through the water surface), or simply a section of pipe that is long enough to protrude through the water surface.
