Team Chlorine Precipitation Meeting Minutes

Fall 2008 Minutes

11.25.2008

Accomplishments

  • This past week the flow controller clogged after two days of running the solution through it.
  • An observation made while running these experiments is that when the solution comes into contact with the air, more precipitate forms.
  • It was then decided to flip the float valve upside down which then raises the level of solution in the flow controller above the orifice that allows flow into the system. The though is that the area where solution flows through the orifice will not be in contact with the atmosphere now.
  • The system run with the float valve switched upside down has been running unimpeded for over a week.

    Outcomes

  • We will explore removing more calcium carbonate during the initial settling by increasing the nucleation sites.

Issues

  • Calcium carbonate is still forming after the initial filter and settling out.
