CONSTITUTION AGUACLARA CLUB

The following is a copy of the constitution for AguaClara Club.  This may be published, posted and distributed at the discretion of the officers of the club. 

Article I - Name

The name of this organization shall be AguaClara Club 

Article III - Objectives

The objectives of this organization shall be:

1: Raise awareness of the AguaClara Project.

2: Raise world wide water issues among communities

3:  Provide forum for communication between community Article IV - Membership (ONE LINE)

Members of this organization may be:

1.      enrolled as an undergraduate at CornellUniversity

2.      enrolled as a graduate student at CornellUniversity

3.      a member of the faculty or staff at CornellUniversity

4.      a member of the Ithacacommunity at large/ partner organizations (at the group's discretion) 

Article V - Government

Section 1: administration

All officers of this organization shall be under the purview of the AguaClara team leader.

The activities of this organization shall be administered by a President, Greenhouse Manager, Treasurer, and Liaison to the Dean who together shall constitute the Officers. 

Section 2: Officer's Terms and Duties

The officers shall hold a one year term, with the option for reelection each year.  The duties of the officers are as follows:

-         The President is the executive head of this organization, and shall act as the spokesman of this organization and its representatives.  The President is also responsible for planning and organizing business meetings and events.  Additionally, the President is responsible for constituent relations within the group.

-         The Vice President is responsible for the planning and implementation of social events. The Vice President also aids the president and can step in when the president cannot fulfill his or her duties. The Vice President will preside over business meetings when the President is not present.

-         Liaison to class is responsible for facilitating communication between the AguaClara Club and Class.

-         The Treasurer shall have charge and exercise general supervision of the financial affairs of this organization and keep the records and book accounts thereof.  The Treasurer shall have custody off all of the papers involving finance and financial commitments, and shall turn over to his successor all the records and book of accounts, as well as all monies and papers belonging to this organization, that is in the Treasurer's possession.

-         The Secretary shall document the weekly business meeting minutes in the AguaClara wiki. The Secretary shall also fill out any forms.

-         Issues Awareness/Fundraising Chair will plan and implement events that highlight the objectives of this organization.  

Section 3: Elections

Election of officers shall be held at the first January meeting of this organization. Nominations may be made from the floor at this meeting.  Voting shall be for each office singly.   

4: Vacancies

Vacancies in elective office shall be filled by election at the end of the next regular meeting with nominations from the floor.  Elections shall be majority vote of members present in addition to absentee votes. 

Section 5: Officers

The Officers shall direct, control and administer the affairs of this organization.  It shall carry out policies and instruction of this organization, and shall act for and on behalf of this organization in all matters within its jurisdiction.  It shall meet at the discretion of the President, not less frequently than five times a year. 

Article VI - Advisor

The Advisor for this organization is Monroe Weber-Shirk 

Article VII - Meetings

A regular meeting of general members shall be held at least once during each month of the academic year.  Special meetings may be called by the Officers at any time either at their own discretion or at the written request of twenty percent of the members of this organization.  At least four days notice shall be given for any general meeting of this organization, except as otherwise noted.    

Section 2: Decisions

Every decision made at these meetings shall be made by a majority vote unless otherwise required by these by laws.

Article VIII - Committees

Ad hoc Committees can be formed at the discretion of this organization.  The duties of these committees shall be defined by the President at the time of the appointment.  Appointments, including the chair of each committee, shall be for a term of one year. 

Article IX - General Provisions 

Section 1: Limitation of Organization Actions

No actions of this organization, the Executive Board, any committee of this organization, or any officer shall directly or indirectly nullify or contravene any act or policy without two-thirds vote.  

Section 2: Personal Identification with the Organization

No members of this organization may use the seal, logo or initials of the organization on cards, stationary, signs or in any other manner except for purposes of publicity, or other pre-approved purposes.

 Article X - Amendments

Amendments to this constitution may be made consistent with the Bylaws at any duly scheduled meeting of this organization upon written proposals signed by eight members and publicly posted at least ten days before such meeting.  A two-thirds majority is required for passage.
