Accomplishments

  • Prepared on fine mesh in Gambit for 3D rke simulation
  • Literature research on energy dissipation map
  • More simulations with 2D Reynolds Stress models

Outcomes

  • Twisted the boundary conditions in Reynold Stress Model until it produced a reasonable energy dissipation map: results were very sensitive to turbulence parameter specification method
  • Reynolds Stress Model and k-epsilon realizable produces similar energy dissipation map in terms of the length and shape of high dissipation region, though other parameters need more investigation in detail
  • Created a fine mesh gives decent convergence trend (at least so far, simulation still running)

Issues

  • Really need to figure out the right parallel computing command to scale up the speed for 3D simulation. Currently it takes 30 seconds per iteration, and about 30 hours in total for simulating a flocculator of a single turning
  • Need to study FLUENT documentation and parallel computing
