Notes from the TSI Administrative Team Meeting, August 3, 2015

Attending: Xin, Bob, Kate, Jim

  1. Intota.  Both institutions are ready to move forward with the transition from Serials Solutions 360 products to ProQuest's Intota.  Jesse will confirm with Joyce the number of training days we will request from ProQuest, so we can include that information in the order forms.  ProQuest has already agreed to charge a single price for 2CUL for each day of training in a single location – presumably at Columbia.
  2. TSI Staff Survey.  We agreed to issue the follow-up survey sometime in the fall – ideally in late-October or early-November – in order to wrap up this work, including the analysis of the results, by the end of the calendar year (i.e. the end of the grant period).  Colleen and Jim (replacing Boaz) will work with the 2CUL assessment liaisons to coordinate the survey's distribution.
  3. TSI Transition Planning.  Kate and Jim sought Bob and Xin's input on how best to plan for the mainstreaming of TSI in January 2016 – that is, after Mellon support runs out.  Bob and Xin agreed that it will be important to know Ann Thornton's thoughts about 2CUL (after she has been sufficiently briefed) and the outcome of the next 2CUL Steering Committee meeting on September 28th before we decide anything definitive.  In the meantime, Kate and Jim will solicit input from JSMIN on this question in that group's regular monthly meetings on August 13th and September 10th.  The TSI Admin Team will reconvene in mid-September to review this question, with JSMIN's input in hand, before the 2CUL Steering meeting.  Jim will ask Rachel and Nini to schedule this session.
  4. Print Serials Report.  Bob and Xin remarked that this study is useful in recommending a few improvements and efficiencies that the libraries might pursue unilaterally, though it is not particularly rich in potential 2CUL collaborative initiatives.  Bob also wondered how much effort we should put into overhauling operations in which crucial functions (e.g. print serial check-in) are diminishing.  As far as the inherent value of such research is concerned, Xin pointed out that joint research is a contribution to the profession but in itself is not necessarily a hallmark of 2CUL; buy-in for 2CUL will only come from initiatives with demonstrable practical value.
