Working Group: Fluidized Bed
Accomplishments
- Debugged the system and ran an experiment without sand in the sand column to look at the gas removal rate and compare it with the results from the experiments using Sand 30, Sand 40, and the experimental results from last semester.
- Repeated DO measurements during the experiment without sand and found that dissolved oxygen concentration at the ports were very similar to previous measurements taken when the system included a sand bed. The sampling points included:
- source water
- effluent from the aerator
- effluent from the sand filter
- effluent from the bubble collector
- Aerated effluent of the system and observed dissolved oxygen measurements to confirm supersaturation. The dissolved oxygen concentration changed from 15.3 mg/L to 8.5 mg/L after aeration.
- Performed data analysis on the results collected from the no sand experiment and found that sand seemed to inhibit gas removal
Issues
- Finding a feasible method of gas removal other than a sand filter.
Goals for upcoming week
- Look into hydrophobic surfaces / other possible mechanisms for gas removal.
- Update wiki pages
- Prepare final presentation
