Gonzalo Caprario Cassinelli's Individual Contribution Page

Fall 2009 Contributions

This semester I worked with the Design team. My main task was to modify the Sedimentation tanks design to minimize the sludge settling in the entrance manifolds and to facilitate the cleaning process.

After a lot of discussion with Nicolas and Monroe, we developed a new strategy to get the flocculated water to the Sedimentation tanks by changing the previous inlet channels, for one 6" PVC inlet manifold. The basis of this design is to keep velocities within a certain range to avoid settling in the pipe and flocs breakup. This change lead to others in the Sedimentation tanks, such as an easily removable drain channel cover, and concrete fill below the slopes. We also modified the Sedimentation tanks' Entrance Channel, creating a smooth transition of the flow entering the Inlet manifold.

We are currently working on the design of a floc hopper and also in the improvement of the inlet manifold design to create a better flow distribution along the inlet ports. The idea it to create a floc blanket with this new design.

I also worked on a preliminary design for a new Aguaclara plant at Los Plancitos, Santa Rosa de Copan.
